Product Overview

Optical Profile Grinding Wheels (PG Wheels) are high‑precision superabrasive forming grinding wheels engineered for optical profile grinders. Utilizing optical projection magnification principle, they deliver micron‑accurate machining for complex curves, irregular contours, narrow slots and internal/external radii.

pg grinding process

These wheels are widely applied in precision molds (punches & dies), carbide cutting tools, tungsten carbide components, connector terminals, LED and IC precision parts. Proper wheel selection directly determines machining accuracy, surface roughness, grinding efficiency and wheel service life. Compatible with WAIDA, Amada, Washino, Petewe and domestic optical profile grinding machines, custom manufacturing against drawings is available.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Superior Form Retention: Metal‑bond wheels maintain stable profile for long‑time production. Strict run‑out control ≤0.005 mm guarantees consistent precision for tiny nose‑radius machining.
  • Two Abrasive Options: Diamond wheels for tungsten carbide, cemented carbide, ceramics and other hard‑brittle materials; CBN wheels for hardened tool steel, high‑speed steel, S136, DC53 and other ferrous workpieces.
  • Two Bond Systems:
    • Metal bond: Long service life, preferred for high‑precision profile forming grinding.
    • Resin bond: Good self‑sharpening performance, excellent surface finish for finishing and ultra‑finishing processes.
  • Full Grit Coverage: Grit ranging from 140# up to 1500#+, covering rough grinding, semi‑finishing, finishing and ultra‑finishing.
  • High Customizability: Outer diameter, thickness, V‑angle, nose radius, bore size and grit can be customized per customer drawings. Suitable for both dry and wet grinding conditions.

Selection & Operation Notes

  • Material Matching: Select diamond wheels for tungsten carbide and hard‑brittle materials; choose CBN wheels for hardened tool steel and high‑speed steel.
  • Bond Selection: Metal‑bond wheels for rough‑forming grinding; resin‑bond wheels for finishing & ultra‑finishing for better surface quality.
  • Dressing & Cutting: Metal‑bond wheels feature excellent form‑holding property but require regular dressing. Avoid excessive cutting depth to prevent nose chipping.
  • Safety Requirement: Operate within allowable peripheral speed. Ensure proper wheel balancing and keep installation run‑out under control.
  • Customization Suggestion: For complex profiles or special nose radii, please provide drawings for custom solution. Trial grinding is recommended for optimal real‑world performance.
  • Before ordering, confirm spindle speed range, flange dimension and cooling method (dry grinding is dominant, partial machines support wet grinding).
